Detoxification is the process of removing alcohol, drugs, or other substances from the body while being medically supervised by a licensed team.[1] Detoxification is the first and most physically intensive step of treatment for addiction and is essential for those whose bodies have developed a dependence on drugs or alcohol. Detoxification alone does not constitute a complete treatment for substance use disorders, but for many people, it is the first step towards meaningful therapy.Â
Without proper medical supervision, withdrawal from certain substances can be very uncomfortable and, in some cases, can be life-threatening.[2]
At All In Solutions, our detox program is built around one objective: to safely and comfortably get each client through the detoxification process in order to have a clear mind and stable foundation for moving forward into the continuum of care.
Medical detox is suggested for anyone who has developed a physical dependence on drugs or alcohol. Medical detox is especially recommended for:
Clinically supervised detoxification matters because the symptoms of withdrawal can differ based on the duration of use, the type of drug, and the overall health of the client suffering through them. Withdrawal can range from flu-like symptoms and intense cravings to seizures, severe psychological distress, and even potentially life-threatening complications.[3]
For all of these reasons, detoxification at home or in an uncontrolled environment poses a potential risk to the person attempting it. A medically supervised detoxification program can assure the following:
At All In Solutions, the medical team has experience treating all types of disorders related to substance use, including alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, stimulants, and other substances.Â
From the moment you arrive at All In Solutions, every aspect of detoxification is designed and methodically executed. The details of the detoxification procedure at All In Solutions are as follows:
Every client undergoes a full clinical assessment to determine the overall health, history of substance use, co-occurring disorders, and overall mental health of the individual. The assessment will develop an individualized plan for each client.
Once admitted, clients are monitored around the clock by our medical and clinical staff. Medication-assisted treatment, including medications for the management of opioid and alcohol withdrawal, will be administered as appropriate on a case-by-case basis.
In addition to the medical support provided during detoxification, All In Solutions offers access to emotional and psychological support as soon as clients arrive. The staff understand that withdrawal is not just a physical experience; it is also emotional and psychological, and clients will not have to face those experiences alone.
Detoxification is the beginning of the treatment process. As the client stabilizes during detoxification, the staff will assist in developing a plan for the next level of treatment, such as residential treatment or PHP, to provide continuity for each client from day one.
Most people with addiction who go to detox also have mental health disorders, like depression, anxiety, PTSD, or bipolar disorder, that either led them to use substances or developed as they used them.[4] Co-occurring disorders continue during detox, and must be addressed as a part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
The clinical team at All In Solutions is trained to treat dual diagnosis. This means that we treat mental health conditions throughout the detox process. This way, our clients will be supported both physically and psychologically, and their treatment after detox will be more successful
While the primary goal of detox is physical stabilization, there is also a therapeutic component to detoxing from drugs and alcohol. When a client is ready to begin therapy, All In Solutions utilizes evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help the client start building the tools and insight they will rely on throughout their recovery journey.
Individual and group therapy will also be initiated during the later stages of detox. This will help the client transition into the more intensive therapeutic work that will take place after the detox process is completed.
Completing detox is a huge accomplishment; however, it is just the beginning of the treatment process.Â
The process for treating the underlying behavioral patterns, trauma, and other factors that caused the individual to misuse substances still needs to take place. If there are no follow-up care therapies, the risk of relapse will be extremely high.
At All In Solutions, we provide a complete continuum of care after completing detox, including residential treatment, PHP, and IOP. The clinical staff works with each client to identify the most appropriate next step based on their specific needs, circumstances, and progress. Aftercare plans and sober living referrals will also be made available to each client as they transition out of higher levels of care.

This will depend on several factors; however, on average, most people will spend approximately five to ten days in a medically monitored detox program. There can be exceptions where a patient may require additional stabilization prior to transitioning to the next step in outpatient or inpatient care.
No. Medical detoxification is focused on physical withdrawal symptom management and stabilization only. Rehabilitation, which includes therapy, counseling, support, and long-term strategies for preventing relapse and addressing the underlying causes of addiction, takes place at all levels after completing detox, including residential treatment, partial hospitalization programs (PHP), and intensive outpatient programs (IOP).
Medically supervised detoxification is highly recommended for those withdrawing from alcohol, opioids, or benzodiazepines due to the potential dangers associated with withdrawal from these substances. There may be some clinical support required for detoxifying from stimulants; however, those withdrawal symptoms are generally not medically dangerous.
The clinical team will work diligently to ensure that you feel both safe and comfortable throughout the entire detoxification process. The team will actively manage your withdrawal symptoms using all available means, including medication-assisted treatment where applicable. It is important to note that detoxification is rarely a comfortable process; however, the objective of our clinical team is to assist you in having the least uncomfortable experience possible while you focus on continuing through your treatment program.
Detox is the beginning of your recovery journey and you don’t have to face it alone. Our admissions team is available 24/7 to answer your questions, verify your insurance, and help you find the right program for your needs.
