Dax Shepard Relapses

Table of Contents

Many know Dax Shepard as a funny, jovial actor and comedian. Shepard, who starred in the hit sitcom Parenthood quickly became a household name with Kristen Bell, his wife and actress. Shepard is well-known for his roles onscreen, but he also serves as a beacon for many addicts.

Shepard has been vocal about his 16-years of sobriety. He was a victim of an addiction to cocaine and alcohol in the past. This led him down a path that he wasn’t proud of. He has since turned his life around and is now a father, husband, as well as an important member of the sober community.

Many who follow Shepard were shocked to learn about his recent relapse. He has a proud history of sobriety and shocked many listeners to the popular podcast “Armchair Expert” when he admitted that he had made a mistake. He admitted to having an opioid addiction, but he didn’t touch any alcohol or cocaine.

Come to Terms with His Setback

Shepard started self-medicating with Vicodin after a motorcycle accident to relieve the pain from his shoulder injury. Shepard says that he didn’t get a prescription from a doctor and instead bought the painkillers himself.

Shepard stated, “I was taking eight 30s per day, and that I know is an amount that will result in a pretty severe withdrawal.” He added that he began to feel lonely and scared. This is the secret to my life.

Shepard tried to wean himself from the drug before coming out to his wife. However, this proved too difficult. He finally sat down with his wife and shared all of his thoughts before he gave him the remaining pills.
